Strengthen your brain, don’t waste it.
BodSAT uses a holistic approach to the SAT.
It’s an unfortunate truth: spring sophomore year through fall senior year is one of the most stressful times today’s high school student will ever experience. One source of this stress is the misconception that SAT prep should be a three- to nine-month ordeal involving endless sessions of vocabulary acquisition, math review, and grammar drills. The “SAT arms race” demands that each student do a little more than each of his or her classmates. (Insanity ensues.)
More is not better. Better is better.
We understand that while the SAT is an important part of college applications, you need a balance: do the things that will yield the highest benefits, then stop. You should not be focusing on getting more SAT hours for your buck; you should be looking for the most effective hours.
We put the SAT in its place.
We have distilled the most helpful strategies for high-achievers into a six-meeting course, allowing our students to achieve excellent results without sacrificing academics, sleep, social needs, and other important activities.
We do not advocate slacking off. We advocate working more wisely.
A method designed for high-scorers.
What works for average students doesn’t work for you.
For many students, SAT prep means simple test-taking strategies and review of the fundamentals (math, grammar, and vocabulary). You already have those down.
Focus on the most difficult questions.
For the hardest questions, only the subtlest strategies will steer you clear of the test-makers’ traps. At BodSAT, we teach the strategies that you need for the tough stuff.
Master the SAT through self-monitoring and self-awareness.
Mastering the SAT is like mastering any discipline: it’s not enough to know how the game is played. At the highest levels of any pursuit, you have to know yourself, you have to know your opponent, and you have to think like a winner. BodSAT gives you this big-picture perspective from day one.
Eliminate carelessness.
You already know most of the answers on the SAT. We give you the skills to use that knowledge flawlessly. That means we show you how to get rid of those careless, “I should have gotten that” mistakes.
Justin and Wes are experts in SAT prep for high achievers.
BodSAT has two, and only two, teachers: Justin Sigars and Wes Carroll.
As professional teachers, we don’t believe in franchising our classes out to less-qualified instructors. Many companies employ college or grad school students, whose only qualifications are that they did well on the SAT and completed a training session. That may work for general-level classes, but high-achievers like you need something better.
We have 25 years’ combined experience teaching gifted students.
We know how to teach high-achieving students. And more importantly, we enjoy it.
We ask good questions instead of giving long lectures.
Rather than explaining one way to solve each problem, we use the Socratic method. We ask the right questions to lead you to solve the problem yourself. This ensures that you stay active and engaged, that you own this new perspective rather than tune out.
Our small seminar format is more effective than private tutoring.
The right number of the right students optimizes learning.
Modeled after graduate seminars, we accept no more than eight and no fewer than four qualifying students per class. This works in your favor. Here’s why: you need to make mistakes in order to learn. However, each bright student makes relatively few mistakes. Part of the magic of BodSAT lies in pooling the mistakes (i.e. learning opportunities) of 4-8 bright students. True peers can see themselves in one another.
Each SAT problem can be solved in a number of ways.
High scorers should have multiple tools at their disposal so that they can choose the quickest, safest, and most accurate way of doing a problem. Every student brings a unique set of tools to the table, so BodSAT students are encouraged to try tools that they don’t already possess that can help them reach ever-higher scores.
How much is the right college worth to you?
The benefits of higher scores are priceless.
This part of the equation is simple: a higher SAT score gives you a better chance of getting into your first choice school. And attending the school most suited to your personality and skills can affect your opportunities throughout your life.
A great score can also save you money in the long run.
SAT scores can be worth a great deal of scholarship money. With total college costs soaring past $250,000, even a few percentage points of savings can mean tens of thousands of dollars. In addition to improving your chances of receiving a merit-based scholarship, BodSAT can help you reach the higher score you need for entrance to the UC of your choice, which can save up to $100,000.
Just like college, SAT prep is an investment.
And just like college, your investment in a BodSAT seminar pays off in many ways.
The skills you learn at BodSAT extend beyond the SAT; the experience pays off for many years.
BodSAT students learn that there is an art to improvement. The key, under-taught, real-world skills that we teach you to push your score higher are the same skills that will help you improve in any endeavor. From the GMAT, MCAT, or LSAT to that big interview, BodSAT skills will give you an advantage for years to come.
BodSAT is designed exclusively for high-achieving students.
The SAT is too important for you to waste time with a regular class or tutor.
Most teachers have to cater to a wide range of students. This means that the more advanced students are forced to sit through lessons they already know. You can’t help getting bored and losing focus.
You don’t need review; you already know the fundamentals.
That’s how you exceeded the 80th percentile. We teach new ways to score points by using tools and skills culled from our thousands of hours of experience working with students just like you.
By taking a small seminar limited to students scoring above the 80th percentile, you’ll multiply your opportunities to learn.
We know where the extra SAT points are for advanced students like you. You might be surprised; they aren’t always where you’re used to looking for them.
